JULIA RIBEIRO : i'm sick of meaning. i just want to hold you.
WHEN: thru July 29, 2018
To abstract is to remove the name, to become nameless. To go from knowing into unknowing. It is when an absence of information becomes transformative: when one aspect is lost another aspect is gained. My paintings develop an abstract syntax, a way of communicating that is nonlinguistic, sometimes even resistant, to spoken language. When one cannot see something they are left to sense it. The paintings are deeply felt, thoughtful yet impulsive, dynamic yet stable. Subtle associative forms, colors and gestures allude to disparate aspects of my own personal experience of the world yet often communicate beyond my own understanding of it. – Julia Ribeiro
