Purchased Lives: The American Slave Trade from 1808 to 1865 

This award-winning exhibition examines the domestic slave trade during the 57 years between America’s abolition of the international slave trade in 1808 and the end of the Civil War, a period during which approximately two million enslaved individuals were forcibly relocated from the Upper South to the Deep South. Join now at a special pro-rated price to experience the remaining three sessions of Evergreen's annual kitchen garden course. Register today to receive culinary instruction from Gertrude's chef/owner John Shields and executive chef Doug Wetzel. The series includes hands-on gardening workshops with farm manager Jon Carroll in the restaurant's garden at Evergreen, a chef's tour of the 32nd Street Farmers' Market in Waverly, and a concluding fall harvest luncheon at Gertrude's. Bring the little ones for plein air painting on the front lawn, chalk drawing on the driveway, bubble-blowing, and lawn games. Enter Evergreen's first ever Scooter Derby and win prizes. Snack on free summery treats and/or bring your own picnic to enjoy on the front lawn.
