THIS WEEK @ THE PEABODY INSTITUTE

On Tuesday, September 19, at 8:00 pm, Joseph Young will make his debut as Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Artistic Director of Ensembles with the Peabody Chamber Orchestra in a performance of Antonín Dvořák's Othello Overture, Op. 93; George Frideric Handel's Concerto grosso in F major, Op. 3, No. 4; and Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 9 in C major, D. 944. This concert, in Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall, will be free. Reserve advance tickets online or by calling the box office at 667-208-6620.

Alumnus Łukasz Kuropaczewski, guitar, will present a free master class in Cohen-Davison Family Theatre, as part of a Levi Family Distinguished Visiting Artist residency. Aaron Civic, guitar, will perform the first movement from Lennox Berkeley's Sonatina, Op. 52. Jordan Colquitt, guitar, will perform Richard Rodney Bennett's Impromptus. James Keretses, guitar, will perform two movements from Jacques Hétu's Suite, Op. 41. Sean Brennan, guitar, will perform Christopher Theofanidis' January Echo.


Monday, September 18, 7:30 pm

Estelí Gomez, soprano, will present a free master class on Ornamenting Handel's Arias with Adam Pearl, harpsichord. Mara Yaffee, soprano, will perform "As when the dove" from Acis & Galatea, HWV 49. Katherine Holobinko, soprano, will perform "Tornami a vagheggiar" from Alcina, HWV 34. William Marshall, baritone, will perform "Honor and Arms" from Samson, HWV 57. Katelyn Aungst, soprano, will perform "Se pieta" from Giulio Cesare, HMV 17. The class will take place in Leith Symington Griswold Hall and is part of a Levi Family Distinguished Visiting Artist residency.


Tuesday, September 19, 10:00 am

Alumnus Łukasz Kuropaczewski, guitar, will present a free master class in Centre Street Performance Studio, as part of a Levi Family Distinguished Visiting Artist residency. Isaac Greene and James Keretses, guitars, will perform Lowell Liebermann's Nocturne Fantasy. Nathan Cornelius, guitar, will perform two movements from Peter Sculthorpe's From Kakadu. Mengyi Li, guitar, will perform Manuel Ponce's Sonata III. Shon Stelman, guitar, will perform Johann Kaspar Mertz's Fantasy.

Eric Terwilliger, horn, will present a free master class in Cohen-Davison Family Theatre.


Wednesday, September 20, 10:00 am

Estelí Gomez, soprano, will present a free voice master class on Stylistic Improvisation Across Genre in Hilda and Douglas Goodwin Recital Hall, as part of a Levi Family Distinguished Visiting Artist residency.


Wednesday, September 20, 12:00 pm

An award-winning actor, entrepreneur, author, speaker, consultant, and educator known as "the father of the teaching artist profession," Eric Booth will join Dean Fred Bronstein in conversation as part of the Dean's Symposium Series. The free event will take place in Joe Byrd Hall and will also be live streamed.


Friday, September 22, 12:00 pm

Now on Fridays, this week's free noon recital in Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall will be presented by the Piano Department. Sun-A Park, piano, will perform Franz Liszt's Veneziae Napoli, S. 162. Hidemi Minagawa, piano, will perform Karol Szymanowski's Mazurkas, Op. 50, Nos. 1-4. Sahun Hong, piano, will perform Frédéric Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35.


Friday, September 22, 6:00 pm

A film by Peabody Preparatory alumnus Philip Glass' 1976 opera Einstein on the Beach will be screened in the Centre Street Performance Studio.

The Tempesta di Mare Chamber Players will present Fire and Invention: Chamber Music of Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767), as part of the Sylvia Adalman Chamber Series. Gwyn Roberts, recorder, flute; Emlyn Ngai, violin; Rebecca Harris, violin; Lisa Terry, cello, viola da gamba; Richard Stone, theorbo; and Adam Pearl, harpsichord, will perform Telemann's Quartet in G minor, TWV 43:g4; Quartet in D minor, TWV 43:d3; Trio in E-flat major, TWV 42:es1, from Musique de Table I; Quartet No. 1 in D major, TWV 43:D3, from Nouveaux Quatuors; and Concerto-Suite in G minor, TWV 43:g3.
