Inside the Block | Outside the Box


This inside “block party” brings the spaces between the walls of the Creative Alliance to life with dance/movement art curated by The Collective, Baltimore’s hub for movers and shakers, including special guest artists. Admission via wristband grants the audience entry to any of the activated performance spaces throughout the building, beginning with performances in the theater at 8pm and followed by pop-up movement work around the building. Dr. Nise da Silveira works in a psychiatric hospital near Rio de Janeiro and refuses to employ violent electroshock therapy to treat schizophrenics. Ridiculed by doctors, she is forced to take the abandoned Sector for Occupational Therapy, where she revolutionizes therapy through paint, dogs, and love. Every Saturday in September Ana Temple Rodney leads free yoga sessions in the gallery. Ana, a spoken word poet, yoga instructor, and Reiki master, found solace and healing in her contribution to the Come As You Are exhibition following a traumatic birth and pregnancy. Info

David Wax Museum: Electric Artifacts Tour

This fall, with a full band including horns and their two young children in tow, Mexo-Americana pioneers David Wax Museum embarks on a tour to celebrate their 10th anniversary as a band and their 1000th show! Salif Keita: The Golden Voice of Africa

Arguably the greatest singer to emerge from modern Mali, Salif Keita has towered as one of the most dominant stars of world music since launching his solo career in 1982. He’s long been a pioneer who has experimented with various pop hybrids and a polished dance oriented productions.

Trauma, grief, loss, depression, behavioral health, and healing are all meaningful parts of the full spectrum of human experience. The eight artists in Come As You Are offer their individual vignettes and artwork as evidence of their personal struggles and the power of resiliency. Info

Mia Halton: Encounters

Amalie Rothschild Gallery

This exhibition features new work Mia Halton created as a resident artist in Puebla, Mexico. The ceramic faces and figures she made are set against the painted backdrop of Puebla and are a reflection of her experience there. Her prints and drawings also explore Encounters between American and Mexican cultures. Info
