Baltimore Shakespeare Factory at McDonogh School for Students Entering Grades 6-12

WHERE: McDonogh School, 8600 McDonogh Road, Owings Mills

Session One: Play’s the Thing

WHEN: July 10-14

Our first session will focus on theatre games and activities which offer participants all the basic skills required to be an actor. Together we will explore everything from staging and building a character to choosing a monologue and nailing the audition.

Education Director Jonas Grey and Lead Education Artist Jamie Jager bring more than three decades of combined experience into a setting designed to equip the next generation of actors with effective tools necessary to be successful on any stage.

Session Two: The Best Medicine

WHEN: July 17-21

From clowning to commedia, improv to impressions, this Actor’s Intensive will explore multiple aspects of performing comedy onstage.

Education Director Jonas Grey and Lead Education Artist Jamie Jager will lead participants in a variety of performance-based activities designed to sharpen wit and master comic timing. The week will culminate in a showcase performance for family and friends.

Session Three: The Seeing Place

WHEN: July 24-28

“The word theatre comes from the Greeks. It means ‘the seeing place’. It is the place people come to see the truth about life and the social situation.” —Stella Adler

Session 3 of our Actor’s Intensive will focus on drama as it developed from the ancient Greeks through the modern era. Once again, Education Director Jonas Grey and Lead Education Artist Jamie Jager will lead participants in a variety of performance-based activities. Throughout the week, participants will explore various styles of performance, with attention to storytelling and dramatic interpretation of both classical and contemporary works. The week will end with a showcase performance for family and friends.
