3 GREAT PROGRAMS THIS MONTH @ THE STRAND THEATER COMPANY

Join us this November for three great programs!

Human Beatbox Theatre Workshop Series: Movement and Sound
WHEN: November 8th, 2016, 2pm
WHERE: The Strand Theater, 5426 Harford Rd, Baltimore
COST: $10

Human Beatboxer and teaching artist Max Bent invites you to experience the fantastic range of the human voice and how voices can be used to accompany movement.

The essential question explored is "what can we do with simply our voices and bodies in space?"

Working in the performance space of the Strand Theater, participants will learn Beatboxing techniques and then use those sounds and rhythms to develop short theatrical pieces.

Participants should come ready to use their voices and move their bodies. This workshop is designed for 3rd-8th graders. Families are welcome.

Synopsis:
A young woman (Hypatia) in Roman Alexandria develops herself into a gifted geometer, mathematician and teacher, but her world is destroyed by the growing darkness and political strife that emerge. Religious fundamentalism builds steadily in this clash of cultures. Inspiring excerpts from classical works by Porphyry, Plotinus, Aristotle and Plato are woven into the action to further the plot and add to the classical mood, while the events in the play are based closely on extant historical texts. Dance and music, including an Homeric hymn, add to the artistic texture. Hypatia of Alexandria was the most famous woman mathematician of antiquity, and her story is as relevant now as it was in her day.
