EVENTS THIS WEEK @ THE PEABODY INSTITUTE

On Saturday, May 28, more than 100 Peabody Dance students will present Scenes from Sleeping Beauty, an abbreviated version of the enchanting fairy tale, directed by Melissa Stafford. The two performances, at 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm, will feature upper-level students from the Pre-Professional Program and the Estelle Dennis/Peabody Dance Training Program for Boys.

All tickets for the performances, in Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall, are $10.

The opening recital of the Marina Piccinini International Flute Summer Master Classes will feature Ms. Piccinini, flute, with Colette Valentine and Araceli Chacon, pianos; Laurie Sokoloff, piccolo; Kristin Bacchiocchi-Stewart, alto flute; and Jisu Jung, percussion, performing Sofia Gubaidulina's Allegro Rustico, Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Suite, Piotr Illyich Tchaikovsky's "Lensky's Aria" from Eugene Onegin, Arthur Lourié's Funeral Games for Chronos, and Otar Taktakishvili's Sonata.

Tickets for the performance, in Leith Symington Griswold Hall, are $20 for adults and $10 for students.

Saturday, May 28, 7:00 pm

Presenters in the Marina Piccinini International Flute Summer Master Classes - Kristin Bacchiocchi-Stewart, Brook Ferguson, and Jee Young Rachel Choe, flutes; and Colette Valentine, piano - will perform a recital of Eric Ewazen's Sonata No. 1 for flute and piano, Toru Takemitsu's Air for Flute, Vivian Fine's The Flicker, Jacques Castérède's Flûtes en Vacances, and Claude Debussy's Syrinx.

The performance, in Leith Symington Griswold Hall, is free and open to the public.


Wednesday, June 1, 7:00 pm

The closing recital of the Marina Piccinini International Flute Summer Master Classes will feature the week's participants with Colette Valentine and Araceli Chacon, pianos, in repertoire selected by the faculty from the week's master classes.

The performance, in Leith Symington Griswold Hall, is free and open to the public.
