Piano Reflections: From the root to the fruit

solo piano performance of standards and originals

A formidable composer and keys player, Lafayette Gilchrist is one of the foremost talents in jazz today. Lafayette solo album The View From Here has received enthusiastic critical acclaim, including an extended profile on the prestigious radio show NPRs Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

For someone who came to piano rather late, at 17, has dug deep into its history. He loves the old piano professors who'd pack the punch of a dance band into two hands at the keyboard. Players like Eubie Blake, and could keep going for hours without exhausting their folkloric materials. If there's one thing Lafayette Gilchrist loves, it's feeding a groove like that, as on his new solo album The View From Here. —Kevin Whitehead - NPR Music

Steven Lampredi, Christine Thomas, Sean Terrance Powell, Jim Knost, and Dyana Neal look at the silly, obsessive, and even twisted things we do in the name of l'amour.

The program features jazz, pop, standards, and musical theater selections by Tom Lehrer, Gilbert and Sullivan, Cole Porter, and many more.
