The Rainbow Crow

Adapted from a Lenape Native American legend, this musical tells the story of a traveling troupe of songbirds who arrive to entertain a colorful animal community. Though their lead singer, Rainbow Crow, is passionate about her talents, the other animals become distracted by the world's first appearance of snow. It's all fun and games until the snow begins to engulf everything! Follow Rainbow Crow on her journey to meet a powerful and quirky spirit known as the Creative Thinker and discover a solution to save her friends.

Theatre Playground 1
Ages 4 to 6
Does your child love stories and playing make-believe? In this class your child will learn a variety of dramatic skills focusing especially on what qualities go into understanding/creating a character (physicality, expression, vocalization, etc.) as well as understanding and building a story. Through a variety of theatre games and exercises the group will write their own play and perform it on the last day of class!

WHEN: Saturdays, March 19 to May 21, (No classes on March 26), 9:30am-10:30am

Theatre Playground 2
Ages 7 to 9
Pantomime, improvisation, progressive story-telling, articulation, dramatic role play, tableau and audition techniques are added to basic creative drama skills for a fun, explorative semester. Students will work at writing their own play which they will present on the last day of class!

WHEN: Saturdays, March 19 to May 21, (No classes on March 26), 9:30am-10:30am

Creative Play Production
Ages 9-13
Students will study what a play is; what makes a play; identifying the parts of a play; the purpose of characters and dialogue, of setting and costumes. The students will create their own production designs and write their own short play which will be read at the final class by professional actors from Pumpkin Theatre's Company.

Scene Study
Ages 10-12
Students will strengthen their acting skills as they work together developing characters and exploring scenes from popular plays. They will also work on monologue techniques which will help to boost confidence and audition skills. The class will culminate in a presentation of scenes and monologues for family and friends.

Comedy Playground I & II

Playground I - Ages 9-11
Playground II - Ages 12 to 14
Students will learn the basics of acting for comedy as well as plenty of fun games, jokes, and exercises. Spit takes, prat falls, improvisation and sketch comedy are just the beginning of this class, perfect for your up and coming young comedian. This course will also strengthen your young actor's abilities on stage as well as thinking outside of the box and collaborating with peers. Smiles and laughs are a guarantee.

Pumpkin's Kids for Kids slot is the only production each year where children perform for our mainstage audiences! Based on the Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. follows a young school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. As he tries to relax, watching TV,   characters representing different facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music.

Girl with Diamonds in Her Eyes: A Cowgirl Musical!

WHEN: April 30, May 1, 7 & 8

Caroline "Buttons" McGee has a chip on her shoulder and eyes on a fortune in the silver mines of Nevada. Armed only with a sling shot, she runs away from her orphanage in Baltimore and sets out for the Wild West. Along her journey, Buttons finds an unlikely ally in Tom "Smudge-Nose" Parker, a gruff old prospector and his horse, Sally. Standing in the way of their treasure is Santiago, a rascally coyote who has his own interests in the secrets buried within the mines. Set in the 1870s, Girl With Diamonds In Her Eyes is a heart-warming story filled with humor and music that reminds us that love, friendship, and family are worth more than all the riches in the world.
