The Eubie Blake Cultural Center has started its new season with a BANG! Exhibit openings, live performances, outdoor celebrations and more. Hope you've been able to stop by. If not, what are you waiting for? Remember, free parking on Saturday and Sundays at the University of Maryland Hospital Parking Garage. (Entrance on Madison Street) makes your visit even easier. Always the best in entertainment at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center.

CULTURAL ICON: A Tribute to Oscar Brown, Jr.

Celebrate Oscar Brown, Jr. on his birthday weekend!

DC vocalist James Zimmerman pays tribute to this incredible, powerful artist who dedicated his life to social activism, creating art, music and theatre that intimately reflected the lives and culture of African Americans. Oscar's songs are brought to life in this performance--narrative lyrics and evocative songs speak to the times in which we live.   

A film documentary about Brown's life, Music is My Life, Politics my Mistress. will be screened before the musical performance.  Joining James on the performance will be Janelle Gill, piano; Herman Burney, bass, Nasar Abadey, drums and Benjamin Sands, saxophone/flute. Hosted by WEAA FM's "Your Girl Cheryl."

"The First Lady of Sax": Corinthia Cromwell
