BMA ANNOUNCES 2015 JAZZ IN THE SCULPTURE GARDEN SUMMER CONCERTS

image006The BMA’s popular Jazz in the Sculpture Garden concert series is back! Join fellow jazz enthusiasts for this one-of-a-kind summer event with regional and national talents performing amidst a fantastic collection of modern art in the Museum’s lush Sculpture Garden. Performers this year are The Tim Green Group, The Hendrik Meurkens Samba Jazz Quintet, Marcus Johnson Project, The Dave Stryker “Eight Track” Band, The Steven Kroon Latin Jazz Sextet.

Concert-goers can choose intimate concert seating provided by the BMA or bring their own chairs or blankets for a picnic. Gertrude’s restaurant provides an outdoor bar with sandwiches and drinks for purchase and also offers Jazz+Dinner tickets, which include an elegant three-course meal served on the terrace during the concert. Call 410-889-3399 for reservations, but hurry—these tickets usually sell out within a week of going on sale as BMA Members receive priority reservations.

In addition to the concert, explore the connection between art and music through the BMA’s pre-concert VIP Tours at 5:30 PM. As part of this exclusive tour, enjoy premium reserved seating in the garden or auditorium and a glass of wine from Gertrude’s. Tickets for the concert + tour are $65.

Hendrik Meurkens has recorded over a dozen albums featuring his distinctive fusion of harmonica and Samba. His trademark harmonica and vibraphone explores the full terrain of Brazilian jazz.

Influenced by musical greats Quincy Jones and Thelonious Monk, self-taught keyboardist Marcus Johnson is acclaimed for his unique style that combines contemporary jazz with hip hop.

AUGUST 22THE DAVE STRYKER “EIGHT TRACK” BAND
Dave Stryker is “one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recent years,” according to the Village Voice. He leads his own quintet to a perfect blend of inventive melody and rhythmic drive.

AUGUST 29THE STEVEN KROON LATIN JAZZ SEXTET

Percussionist Steven Kroon has captivated audiences for more than 35 years, recording and performing with musicians Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall, The Temptations, and especially the late R&B legend Luther Vandross, who he accompanied for 20 years.
