PBS Documentary

"A Raisin in the Sun Revisited: The Raisin Cycle at Center Stage"
WHEN: Fri, Oct 25, 9 PM ET

This month, PBS presents a new, one-hour documentary—filmed right here at Center Stage.

Filmmakers captured the drama and cultural significance of simultaneously running two plays inspired by Lorraine Hansberry's groundbreaking 1959 drama, A Raisin in the Sun. Center Stage mounted both plays—Clybourne Park—by Bruce Norris and Beneatha's Place by Kwame Kwei-Armahin repertory as The Raisin Cycle last spring.

With two opening nights looming, rehearsals, meetings, and costume fittings are paired with footage of Center Stage's performances, the 1961 film, and insights from theater historians.

The Raisin Cycle Named Best Programming

The City Paper's Best of Baltimore issue (Sep 2013) named The Raisin Cycle Best Programming:

"With the programming for his first full season as artistic director of Center Stage, Kwame Kwei-Armah declared that his tenure would be bold, challenging, and directed right at the core issues facing Baltimore...
[Clybourne Park and Beneatha's Place,] expertly presented with nearly identical casts, ask vital questions about race, place, and ownership—the very same issues confronted in the constantly changing landscapes and demographics of Charm City."
Thank you, City Paper!
