Antony & Cleopatra

Taming of the Shrew

Spring is finally here, so it’s time for you to think about summer and Shakespeare, picnics and the Ruins, power and love. Chesapeake Shakespeare Company-in-the-Ruins is offering two fantastic Shakespeare plays about love—each featuring powerful women characters.

Allow the Queen of Egypt to rule your heart for a night in Shakespeare’s immortal ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, directed by Ralph Alan Cohen, founder of the celebrated American Shakespeare Center down in Virginia.

Then return for TAMING OF THE SHREW, with razor-tongued Kate the Shrew, in a rowdy, rambunctious production directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director, Ian Gallanar, who loves nothing better than directing comic mayhem. Tickets are on sale now, and remember, kids 18 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Come see your favorite or come see both (two show package is only $58). Bring your kids on family-friendly Sundays, bring a date for a romantic evening, enjoy a special Extended Version or a theme weekend or come on any day for a great evening of outdoor theater from Maryland's leading classics theater.

More summer fun! Weekend festivals at The Ruins: PLAN NOW

Four weekend festivals are being planned to entertain and enlighten you this summer. Each is related to a theme in the plays:

  • Calypso Islands Weekend (June 14-15-16), inspired by the Caribbean setting planned for Antony and Cleopatra.
  • Salute to Independent Women (July 5-6-7), over the Independence Day weekend.
  • Toga Weekend (July 13-14). We know there’s one in your closet!
  • Puppet Festival Weekend (July 26-27-28), celebrating the magic of puppetry--Taming of the Shrew opens with a Punch and Judy puppet show scene.
