There will be a free Piano Ensemble concert by Tian Lu and Yury Shadrin on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7:00 pm in Peabody's Leith Symington Griswold Hall. On the program are works by Mozart, Schubert, Albéniz, and Ravel. At a second free concert on Friday, Dec. 14, at 4:00 pm in Peabody's Hilda and Douglas Goodwin Recital Hall, other pairs of students will perform works for two pianos, and piano, four-hands, by Mozart, Weber, Schubert, Schumann, Dvořák, Fauré, Rachmaninoff, Copland, and Gorelashvili.
The Conservatory's end-of-semester chamber music concerts continue on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 2:30 and 5:00 pm, and on Friday, Dec. 14, at 2:30 pm. The concerts, in Peabody's Cohen-Davison Family Theatre, are free and open to the public.
Gary Thomas will direct the Peabody Improvisation & Multimedia Ensemble on Thursday, Dec. 13, 7:30 pm, in Peabody's East Hall. Alan Ferber will guest conduct his own compositions and arrangements, including Angel's Landing, The Compass, and JigSaw. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students with ID. The Peabody Jazz Orchestra, directed by Michael Formanek, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a concert of Thelonious Monk's big band music on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 pm in East Hall. Let's Cool One, Monk's Point, Reflections, Trinkle Tinkle, and other works will be performed. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students with ID. On Saturday, Dec, 15, at 3:00 pm, the Preparatory Wind Orchestra, the Preparatory Wind Band, and the Preparatory Concert Band will give a free concert in Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall. Conducting the ensembles will be Elijah Wirth, Karen Seward, and Danielle Schmitt.
Free noon recitals
At this week's free Thursday Noon recital in Hilda and Douglas Goodwin Recital Hall, clarinetist Joel Weszka, cellist Frances Borowsky, and pianist Michael Delfin will perform Wilhelm Berger's Trio for clarinet, cello and piano; violinists Shyang Puri and Szu-Yun Chiu, violist Yang Guo, and cellist Lavena Johanson will perform Robert Schumann's String Quartet No. 1; and trumpeters Emily Korth and Austin Boyer, hornist Elizabeth Fryer, trombonist Frances Yu, and tubist Samuel Ambrose will perform Anthony Plog's Four Sketches for Brass Quintet.
Conservatory student recitals

- The Preparatory's Performance Academy Festival Orchestra, coordinated by Christian Tremblay, will perform on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2:00 pm in the Sculpture Court at the Walters Art Museum, 600 North Charles Street.
- The winners of the Preparatory's Winter Honors Competition will give a free recital on Sunday, Jan. 27, 3:00 pm in Leith Symington Griswold Hall.
- Violinists Victor Danchenko and Soovin Kim will perform with pianist Vera Danchenko-Stern as part of the Sylvia Adalman Chamber Series on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 8:00 pm in Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall.
