Through the Legacy of Bakst

Inspired by famed Ballet Russes stage and costume designer Léon Bakst, who created Evergreen's private theatre 90 years ago this fall, over 40 lavish works by contemporary artist and fashion designer Aleona Isakova are presented in this special exhibition alongside Bakst drawings and Russian modernist ephemera. The young Russian pianist-virtuoso makes a special return engagement to Evergreen to kick off the 60th anniversary season of Music at Evergreen, playing works by Schubert, Liszt, and Gounod in the Bakst Theatre. Audition Call for Dancers
Los Angeles-based choreographer Heather Sultz, 2012 artist-in-residence at Evergreen Museum & Library, will audition Baltimore area dancers to perform in a site-specific performance that will be presented at the museum Friday and Saturday, November 9–10. MORE »

Site specific dance challenges how we think about and use space around us. Evergreen choreographer-in-residence Heather Sultz will lead two movement-based workshops for all bodies and abilities, drawing inspiration from the Gilded Age mansion’s architectural history.
