BMA LAUNCHES FALL FAMILY PROGRAMS WITH NEW TEEN WORKSHOPS

FALL TEEN WORKSHOPS

Give your teenager something to be excited about with the BMA’s new Fall Teen Workshops, where top regional artists encourage middle- and high-school students to express their own creativity. These workshops expose teens to a wide range of disciplines such as mosaics, costumes, poetry, and drawings. Classes run from September through December; advance registration and payment is required. Students participating in the costume and poetry workshops will get to participate in a live fashion show and poetry readings on November 18 at The Big Day Contemporary Wing reopening celebration! MARVELOUS MOSAICS

Instructor: Rick Shelley

Learn this ancient art form, then create your own masterpiece to take home! Rick Shelley’s passion for mosaics led him to study with master tile makers in Italy, Greece, and Turkey. He has taught tile making at Baltimore Clayworks, American Visionary Art Museum, and Creative Alliance.

COSTUME DESIGN & PRODUCTION

Use unconventional materials to craft an outrageously fun costume. Fashion show on November 18. Past Sondheim Prize Semi-Finalist, Melissa Webb has spent a decade designing costumes for professional theaters in the Baltimore/DC area. Her costumes have been featured at venues such as Gallery Imperato and Creative Alliance.

Find inspiration in your dreams, memories, and imagination as you weave powerful ideas into poems. Poetry readings on November 18. Voted “Best Grass-Roots Poet” by City Paper, Olu Butterfly Woods has worked with multi-platinum artists such as Erykah Badu. She is also the co-producer and host of Organic Soul Tuesdays.

Sketch your vision, then immerse yourself into an artwork of epic proportions. Gaia, one of the best known street artists in Baltimore, recently curated the Open Walls Baltimore initiative in Station North Arts & Entertainment District. This fall, he is creating a large-scale, site-specific installation that will be on view in the BMA’s renovated Contemporary Wing.

ABOUT THE BALTIMORE MUSEUM OF ART
The Baltimore Museum of Art is home to an internationally renowned collection of 19th-century, modern, and contemporary art. Founded in 1914 with a single painting, the BMA today has 90,000 works of art—including the largest holding of works by Henri Matisse in the world—as well as outstanding collections of European and American fine and decorative arts, 15th- through 19th-century prints and drawings, works by established and emerging contemporary artists, and objects from Africa, Asia, the Ancient Americas, and Pacific Islands. Two beautifully landscaped gardens display an array of 20th-century sculpture that is an oasis in the city.

VISITOR INFORMATION
General admission to the BMA is free. Special exhibitions may be ticketed. The BMA is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 AM–5 PM; Saturday and Sunday, 11 AM–6 PM. The Museum is closed Monday, Tuesday, New Year’s Day, July 4, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The BMA is located on 10 Art Museum Drive, three miles north of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
