From the clubs in Recife to New York and now The Patterson, Quarteto Olinda brings their forró to the United States for the first time. The sounds of the rabeca—the Brazilian folk fiddle—and the drumbeat of the zabumba get the dance floor going just like a Brazilian summer night. The members of Quarteto Olinda grew up surrounded by the music of Northeast Brazil, and now bring their own spin on the regional styles of forró, coco, and cavalo marinho. DC’s Baque do Manque, showcasing Recife’s unique percussion tradition of maracatu, opens. Come try the easy, informal two step that is forro!
