Corner Quartet

The Corner Quartet recognizes the bebop vocabulary and jazz tradition, while exploring the influence of free-jazz and urban rhythm on contemporary improvisation. For this concert they are presenting original compositions and new interpretations of standard jazz repertoire. 

Yunhong Chi, clarinet & Ran Duan, piano

Clarinetist Yunhong Chi received her BM and MM degrees at the Peabody Institute of Music, a professional study certificate diploma at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Franklin Cohen, and as a concerto competition winner performed the Debussy Rapsodie with the CIM orchestra in spring 2011. She is pursuing a doctoral degree in clarinet performance, and is employed as a teaching assistant at Michigan State University.

Ran Duan received her Bachelor of Music degree with honorable mention from China Conservatory. After two years study with Dr. Daniel Shapiro, Ran received her Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Currently, she attends the performing program at the Cleveland Institute of Music and works for CIM distance learning department as a performer and piano teacher.
