Patterson Park, Eastern & Linwood Aves. Bmore Pulaski Monument @ Linwood & Eastern Aves
Wildlights Wildlife celebrates the spirits of the wildlife in the park, creating their likenesses in glowing lanterns and illuminated costumes created out of repurposed materials. Enthralled with the Park's terrain and its animal inhabitants, Laure, with the support of the community will create floating luminaria on the Boat Lake, and present large scale projections throughout Patterson Park. Parade Marshalls will become the spirits of squirrels past that carry glowing nuts. The parade features stilt walkers, illuminated floats, marching bands and surprise performances. Everyone is invited to create a costume or a lantern and join in the parade!
Sculptor, performance artist and curator Laure Drogoul was the inaugural winner of Baltimore's prestigious Sondheim Prize in 2006. She founder of the avant performance venue The 14 Karat Cabaret in 1989 and is an organizer and curator of the Transmodern Festival. Laure creates installations and large-scale illuminated sculptures that contain video within them. Her hilarious, often macabre, aesthetic is perfectly suited to Halloween! She has visited and studied lantern parades in Asia and India. Laure will open the Parade, inviting many of Baltimore's most vibrant performance groups to create parts of the festive procession. Laure and her volunteers will set up a Parade studio IN the Park, at the Pool House adjoining the Patterson Park Pool.
Free lantern making workshops will be offered at the Halloween Parade Fall Fest before the Parade and at several community workshops in the weeks preceding it. The producers are soliciting donations of plastic bottles!
