Every Sunday families can fashion costumes, paint portraits, build kinetic sculptures and much more—without spending a dime. September programs focus on the principles of sculpture using the BMA’s indoor works and outdoor sculpture garden as inspiration while October’s programs explore the Museum’s collection of Old Master paintings.

Hand Held: Personal Arts of Africa

Curator Nichole Bridges discusses the exhibition of more than 80 personal objects, drawn from the BMA’s extraordinary, multi-faceted African collection. These rarely shown items such as hats, staffs, combs, and vessels, while fascinating in their own right also represent one aspect of the much-anticipated reinstallation of the African art collection, scheduled to reopen in 2014.
