Discover the artistry of textiles with more than 20 exhibitors, family workshops, and presentations exploring textile design, embroidery, batik, silk painting, and many other aspects of the fiber arts.

Curator’s Choice, 11 AM–5 PM
Never before shown at the BMA! Seventeen recent textile acquisitions, including contemporary and historical costume pieces, textiles used in interiors, and fiber art from various cultures and countries.

Docent-Led Tours of Curator's Choice, 12:30-1 PM & 2:30– 3 PM

Family Fun with Textiles, 1–4 PM
Weave wall hangings using recycled fabrics and plastics, or create stamps for fabrics and embellish your creations with buttons and beads.

Presentations, 11 AM –5 PM

  • Silk Painting with Diane Tuckman, 11:15 AM-Noon
    Learn techniques and try your hand at silk painting.
  • Batik with Kathy Strauss, 12:15-1 PM
    Explore the history of one of the oldest forms of fabric design.
  • Woodcut Printing on Cloth with Jules Burrowes, 1:15-2 PM
    Discover the process of creating relief wood blocks for use in fabric printing.
  • Screen & Block Printing with Sarah Templin, 2:15–3 PM
    Explore the basics of screen and block printing—from developing the design to making the print negative and printing on fabric.
  • Designing Textiles with Ann Sloatman, 2:15–3 PM
    Learn how textile design develops and evolves.
  • Beadwork Textiles with Jennifer Brown, 3:15–4 PM
    Explore “off-loom” techniques, Peyote, Herringbone, Ndbele stitches, and net stitching.
  • Maryland Academy of Couture Arts Fashion Show, 4:15–5 PM
