COMMUNITY ART COLLABORATIVE EXHIBITION
WHEN: Monday, June 6–Friday, June 17
WHERE: Fox Building: Fox 3 Gallery, 1303 W. Mount Royal Ave.
The Community Art Collaborative (CAC) celebrates the conclusion of its 2010–11 year with an exhibition of work made by CAC members in partnership with community members and youth. The theme for this year’s exhibition is “dream,” highlighting young imaginations expressed through dreams as well as dreams youth have for themselves, their community and their city.
A community festival featuring drumming, line dancing and other participatory performances will take place in Cohen Plaza (in front of the Brown and Fox buildings).
Community Art Collaborative member artists spend yearlong residencies with nonprofit organizations in Baltimore, where they work with youth and adults to build community through artmaking. This exhibition highlights the different roles community artists play as facilitators, problem solvers and liaisons between Baltimore’s communities and MICA. Many CAC members are also pursuing an M.A. in Community Arts degree at MICA.
Abstracts features 16 alumni artists who have also participated in exhibitions at either the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport or Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
