Dynamite four-person cast and director—all new to Rep Stage—bring this hilarious comedy to the stage

Speech & Debate is cutting-edge dark comedy from one of Off-Broadway’s hottest young playwrights that cleverly blends music, cyberspace, and dance in a story of three teenage misfits linked by a sex scandal that rocks the town of Salem, Oregon.

Michael Stebbins, Rep Stage’s producing artistic director, adds, “These three high school misfits—a frumpy girl, nerdy guy and openly gay guy—are brought together as they grapple with this taboo subject through song, dance, role-playing and cyberspace. These are characters you laugh with, empathize with and root for all the way.”

In its review of Speech & Debate, The New York Times wrote, ”The play’s real accomplishment is its picture of the borderland between late adolescence and adulthood, where grown-up ideas and ambition coexist with childish will and bravado.”

Due to construction of HCC’s new parking garage and health sciences building, campus parking will be tighter this season. Rep Stage patrons are encouraged to arrive 30-40 minutes prior to show time. This is especially important if you are attending a performance on a weekday when classes are in session. Parking will be available in Lots B, C (adjacent to the Rouse Company Foundation Building) and A (adjacent to Duncan Hall) and there will still be limited number of handicap parking spaces available:

  1. Just outside the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center
  2. Behind the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center by the trailer classrooms
  3. In Lot E adjacent to the Rouse Company Foundation building
  4. In Lot A adjacent to Duncan Hall.right outside the Horowitz Center.
