Margret Grebowicz, voice; Josh Davis, bass; David Ballou, trumpet; Mark Ferber, drums

"Pure," "wistful," "inviting"... This is how All About Jazz New York describes the sound of self-taught vocalist Margret Grebowicz. Formerly of the group Com Você, she recently released her first solo CD on Sunnyside Records

Joshua Davis is Director of Jazz Studies at Susquehanna University. He has released two CDs as a leader and composer.

Trumpeter/Improviser/Composer Dave Ballou has released nine CDs as a leader and co-leader. He was recently awarded a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award for Music Composition. Jon Nelson has recorded his composition Samskara for solo trumpet for the 8bells label. Dave is an Associate Professor of Music and coordinator of jazz/improvisation at Towson University.

Busy drummer Mark Ferber is heard on recent recordings with various artists on Soul Note, Fresh Sound/New Talent, Sunnyside, Omnitone and Steeplechase Records, as well as a part-time faculty member for the City College of New York and the School of Improvisational Music.

In Celebration of Ben's 10th CD Release

Ben Allison is a “visionary composer, adventurous improviser, and strong organizational force on the New York City jazz scene, [and] has emerged as a rising star over the past decade” (JazzTimes). With his groups The Ben Allison Band, Man Size Safe, Peace Pipe and Medicine Wheel, Ben has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Brazil, winning fans and building new audiences with an adventurous yet accessible sound and a flair for the unexpected.

Mike Pope, bass; Rogerio Boccato, drums; Alan Blackman, piano

Pianist and composer Alan Blackman has 2 CDs as a leader and his latest, Turning Point, features saxophonist Donny McCaslin and vocalist Margret Grebowicz. He is a recipient of MSAC grants for the years 2007-2011 as well as Baltimore Creative fund grant for composition. He has taught at both Towson University and Howard Community College where he continues his 2 Piano improvised music series and hopes to release a recording in the Fall of 2011. Recent concerts have included Ferenc Nemeth, Mike Pope, Vardan Ovsepian, Warren Wolf and Sunna Gunnlaugs.
